Founding Advisory Board Member of the Lancashire Music Association

David Wood is a founding advisory board member of the Lancashire Music Association [LMA] who are an not-for-profit independent democratically run association – founded in October 2024 by Tony Rigg – to connect, support and represent the interests of music people, businesses, and scenes in Lancashire.

The LMA aims to help develop a diverse, inclusive and accessible music industry in the county, and enhance Lancashire’s reputation as an amazing place for music. It is an association for all music stakeholders in or from Lancashire; and members can be professionals or semi-professionals; educators or students [or anyone who wants to develop a career in music]; amateurs or hobbyists; or anyone who is operating within our Lancashire music eco systems [including: techs, retailers, venues, management, promotors, ticketing, etc].


The LMA belongs to, and is guided by the voices of its membership, which is comprised of Lancashire’s music stakeholders who are committed to [1] Listening to and understanding our members’ needs​; [2] Facilitating a collective voice for Lancashire’s music stakeholders, and representing our communities, culture and industry at a local, regional and national level; [3] Developing our music ecosystems, talent, management, networks, infrastructure, and audiences throughout the county, with a view to building community, and enhancing and capturing cultural and economic value​​​; [4] Supporting the development and prospect of sustainable music-related careers in Lancashire; [5] Defragmenting the county’s music industry​; [5] Celebrating success and achievement.

Lancashire is a great place for music, its time to celebrate and share our successes, and support the next waves of Lancashire’s music people. ​​The LMA team is led by Tony Rigg and the advisory board comprises of music stakeholders from different aspects of the music industry, representing Lancashire’s diverse communities throughout the county. In addition to the Advisory Board, the LMA have a group of specialist advisors with specific expertise in areas relating to diversity, inclusivity, accessibility, mental health, and environmental advocacy, to underpin the equitable approach in everything the LMA will do.

Some of the membership benefits the LMA propose include:
– Inclusion in a countywide network of music people and businesses, to underpin collaboration and increase opportunity.​
– Subscription to a membership directory (opt in/ out) of Lancashire’s music people.​
– A means to share your thoughts and views on how to develop our industry, enabling growth and advocacy with policy makers on a regional and national basis.​
– Direct access to and consultation with experienced music industry professionals to advise on music projects, management, planning and career development.​
– Access to research and knowledge resources we will be developing on an ongoing basis to help better understand Lancashire’s music industry and inform strategy/ decision making.​
– Access to LMA events, including mentoring sessions and development workshops around the county.
– Admission to the annual Lancashire Music Summit.

So, to sum up. The LMA is for all music stakeholders in, and from Lancashire, and has been created to help support and develop a diverse, inclusive and accessible Music Industry for the county, along with its reputation as a place celebrated for its music. We are all in this together, and this is YOUR Lancashire Music Association.
