David Wood is a member of the steering group for Morecambe BID [Morecambe’s Business Improvement District] which is here to try and make: (1) Morecambe a better place to work in, live in and visit; (2) boost tourism and increase footfall in the town centre; (3) improve the safety of the area; and (4) attract additional investment from elsewhere to add to the BID spending pot.
The background to a ‘BID’, is that it’s a business led and business funded body formed to improve a defined area. Each business within the given zone pays a small percentage of their rateable value into a funding pot once a year. In Morecambe, the BID has a funding pot and businesses can propose how this money is spent to improve their town.
The BID involves ongoing consultation with Morecambe’s businesses to ensure their needs are met, in ways that they want to see. The Steering Group is an association of organisations and individuals committed to working together in order to improve the trading environment for our businesses located in Morecambe Town centre. Our vision is to improve the economic prosperity of the town centre by providing businesses with the opportunity to directly improve their own trading environment.
